Celebrating Earth Hour at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, Athens

A POWERFUL MESSAGE ON ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AND CARING FOR THE PLANET

On Saturday the 27^th March 2010 at 8.30pm, the Hotel Grande Bretagne will participate in the marking of Earth Hour 2010 by turning off / dimming its lights for one hour and sending a powerful message on environmental awareness and caring for the planet.  All Starwood Hotels & Resorts worldwide are encouraged to participate in the marking of 2010 Earth Hour through various activities around the world.  

At 8.30 pm and for one hour, the Hotel Grande Bretagne will switch off its exterior lighting and dim interior lighting in all public and banqueting areas plus food & beverage outlets, offering its guests the opportunity to dine by candlelight, while ensuring of course that the safety of its guests and associates is not jeopardized in any way. Guests will be advised of the actions being taken by the hotel with messages on their TV screens and will also have the opportunity to participate, either by switching off or dimming their own in-room lights.

As global climate change continues to emerge as one of the great challenges for modern society, it has become clear that the way we view our business needs to change as well as new "green" ways of thinking becoming more of a priority.  Key to this change is the reduction of CO₂ emissions worldwide, and like all businesses, Starwood Hotels & Resorts have a crucial role to play as a major owner and operator of hotels around the globe.
